Congratulations Kim and Artis Brown. You can tell from the emotion seen in this video clip that this couple had a fantastic day. Not only did they have a fantastic day but every vendor that was a part of their day had a great day as well.  Thank you so much Keith Matthews of AVO Wedding Videography for putting this awesome clip together.  This clip is such a great example of the synergy that is needed from the couple and awesome vendors on the wedding day.  Brides, I say this at every wedding rehearsal "Don't sweat the small stuff on your wedding day." Reaching Out to Make Amends

Once Solomon’s wife renewed within her mind a right attitude and a loving perspective toward her husband, she went in search of Solomon.  That’s why the daughters of Jerusalem asked,

      Where has your beloved gone,
      O fairest among women?
      Where has your beloved turned aside,
      That we may seek him with you? (Song 6:1)

She had a desire to find Solomon and to make things right.  At that point, others were not perceived as hindering her, shaming her, or hurting her; rather, they were volunteering to help her.  Her conscience was clear.  Her instincts were alive and functioning toward reconciliation.  God was again working with her to find and recover what she had rejected.

My Question For You:

When it is time to make amends, do you seek out your spouse?

My Challenge For You:

After a conflict, when your mind and perspective are right regarding your spouse, go and seek them out to make things right.

What Should The Bride Say?

As speeches come to a close it’s now often common for the bride to take to the podium and share her sentiments with everyone gathered.

 

But what should the bride say?

 

I’ll start by telling you what the bride should NOT say….

• Don’t tell everyone which one of your bridesmaids ruined your morning with her drama
• Don’t talk about how you wished you could have spent more but you hope that what you’ve done is “okay”
• Don’t point out Uncle Tommy and tell everyone he gets grabby after a few drinks

That’s NOT what a bride should say!

Always speak from the heart and only speak about the positive. Weddings are highly emotional days and even if someone has disappointed you on that day it’s better not to stir the pot and risk ruining any more of your wedding day. Being the gracious bride is all you want your guests to remember. You can deal with any unpleasantness post wedding.

 

The Perfect Bride Speech

 

A bride should approach the podium with grace and style. Here’s how your bridal speech should be laid out:

1. Thank your parents - Thank them for being your parents and raising you and all that they have done for the wedding.
2. Thank his parents - Thank them for their son and their support (even if they haven’t been nice to you or contributed anything to the wedding, thank them anyway).
3. Thank the groomsmen - Even if they got your man tipsy before the ceremony don’t bring it up, thank them for supporting him leading up to this day.
4. Thank your bridesmaids - This one will be a bit teary. Don’t go through each girl individually because that will take too long (I suggest you write them a heartfelt note and give it to them at the rehearsal). But mention the things they’ve done for you like throwing your shower and being so wonderful on your wedding day.
5. Thank your Wedding VIP’s - Make sure to thank anyone that has helped make your wedding day special, from your guest book attendant, to the friend that’s letting half your family stay at her house. This is the time to publicly thank them for their hard work.
6. Thank your venue - The venue has done a lot to prepare for your wedding day and they always appreciate a big thank you. Even if the person who’s helped you out throughout the planning at your venue is not in attendance their staff is there and the word will get back to them.
7. Thank your vendors - Your wedding planner, your photographer, your videographer and anyone else that is actually in attendance at your wedding reception. These folks have worked hard all day to make it special for you. All your other vendors you can thank when you’re sending out thank you notes (and yes, you should be sending all your vendors thank you notes).
8. Thank the travelers - Definitely thank everyone that traveled. It’s a good idea to work it into the MC’s speech to make special note of these people but it’s oh so nice when the bride looks around the room and thanks the travelers and makes eye contact with them.
9. Thank all the guests - All your guests gave up at least one night of their life for your wedding so thank them for being a part of this day and a part of your life.
10. Thank your man - Ooo and ahhh over how wonderful your new husband is. He’s been going through this journey with you and whether or not you wrote your own vows it’s still nice for him to hear how happy you are that you married him.

You want to make sure that you don’t miss any thank you’s on your wedding day. I’ve seen it hurt friendships and family relations for a long time post wedding. It’s easy to make up a list of these thank you’s before the wedding and put it in your wedding day purse.

 

 

Ciara’s Bridal Advice

 

Getting up to the podium as the bride is exactly the closure you need. Whether you’ve had a wedding planner or not you’ve still planned your wedding, connected with all of these people and communicating with them from the podium will feel right. Just take a couple of deep breaths beforehand and wiggle your toes if you’re nervous. Just remember, you’re the most beautiful woman in the room and everyone will be excited to hear what you have to say on your special day.

I recently had the pleasure of planning the wedding for Erin Wilkinson and Avery Ainsworth.  Erin was away in school throughout the planning so I worked with her mother Sonja Langham quite a bit in taking care of the details for this big event.  Erin and Avery are such an energetic couple with very bright futures ahead of them.  Erin recently graduated OT school and Avery along with working a regular job, regularly competes in triathlons (actually Erin just completed a triathlon as well).  Avery also does a fabulous Prince, Purple Rain impersonation.  As a matter of fact, Avery brought the tent down at their reception with his Purple Rain performance.  Avery and Erin had a weekend of exciting events planned and they along with Bridal Party, friends and family had an awesome time.  Erin, Avery, and Sonja thanks so much for allowing me to help you in planning this important event in your lives.  Working with you was such a pleasure and I hope your weekend was truly An Event To Remember!  Enjoy the pictures taken by Liss Sterling Photography.

Very interesting post how does your spouse or for that matter anyone view you during conflict?  How do you view those you are having conflict with?

The Response to Her Husband

After reviewing the qualities of her husband as listed in Song of Solomon 5:10-16 Solomon’s wife concluded:

“He is altogether lovely.  He is everything I want in a husband.” 

God truly changed her heart, as her husband was kind in the face of wrong.  In the light of her newly awakened awareness of all the good qualities in her husband, she had a strong desire to be the wife he longed to have.

The woman is a fine example of what God does in transforming a person’s attitude.  First, she begins to see things in a new light.  She begins to see the good that has escaped her before.  She sees her mate as God sees her mate!  When that happens, compassion rises in her heart.  And in the wake of compassion, she feels a desire for renewed intimacy and closeness of communication.           

My Question For You: Do you look at your mate through God’s eyes or through your own.

My Challenge For You: The next time you are working through conflict with your spouse, change the way you view your spouse and see how that changes things.
